NORWALK – Dozens of parents are expected to turn out at a meeting tonight to speak against the proposed closure of Dolores Huerta Elementary School by the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. The district’s school board is scheduled to vote tonight on whether to close the school as a way to save $570,000 a year in operational costs. Officials say the school has suffered in recent years from declining enrollment. But supporters of the school, who held a rally in front of the district’s headquarters early Monday morning, want Huerta kept open. They plan to pack tonight’s board meeting.
