first_imgTetra Tech DPK has trained scores of security officers from the Liberia National Police (LNP), Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) assigned in Nimba in another phase of training as a means of strengthening their capacity in discharging their duties.The training workshop, held on November 6th brought together over 40 security officers from across Nimba especially those assigned within a communities where there have been reports of land crisis.William Thompson, III, Component 3 leader of Tetra Tech DPK said, “This training is an effort to complement government’s efforts in the Security Sector Reform process of Liberia.”Tetra Tech DPK’s Mitigating Land Disputes in Liberia (MLDL) program, taking into consideration one of its mandates, which is to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies in responding to community security concerns through improved investigation and crime scene management conducted a three-day training workshop for four law enforcement agenciesLNP, BIN, NBI and DEA. The training is funded by the Narcotic Law  Enforcement/INL, a unit in the US Department of State.The training, held under the theme, “Enhancing Law Enforcement Personnel Responsiveness to Community Security Concerns,” is part of the Tetra Tech DPK’s mandate that calls for building of the capacity of law enforcement officers, especially the police.Speaking at the opening of the training, the Superintendent of Nimba County, Ms. Christina Dagadu, urged the trainees to put into practice they were taught so that they can discharge their duties in a much more improved manner in the county.Supt. Dagadu commended Tetra Tech for building the skills of the security in Nimba, adding:  “It is Tetra Tech, which has broadened my knowledge on security.”“The training workshop was held under various topics including; implementing the concept of community policing, principles of mediation for handling disputes, intelligence and information gathering, criminal investigation and crime scene management investigation as well as conflict resolution.Tetra Tech DPK is presently operating in Lofa and Nimba Counties as a pilot project same last year under the Mitigating Land Dispute in Liberia Program.Since last year, Tetra Tech has been establishing county security council, district security council as well as a community forum in districts of the two counties.The community forum, which is mostly civilians discuss and report issues that have that might lead to insecurity in the community to district security council, which comprises of all the security apparatus and if it cannot be resolved it then go to the county security county, which is headed by the superintendent.It can be recalled that at the launch of the Bain Garr Security Council last year in Ganta, the police detail commander of Ganta praised Tetra Tech DPK for helping to reduce the land tension in Ganta.Meanwhile, the Chief of Team of Tetra Tech, Dr. Alfred Fofie, had vowed to provide some logistics (motorbikes) to enhance the work of the security.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
