PICO RIVERA – A local political group has failed to round up sufficient signatures to recall three Pico Rivera City Council members, but the head of the group said Monday they’ll refocus and try again. This time, however, members of Pico Rivera Community for Truth in Politics, or C-TIP for short, will push to recall Councilman Ron Beilke, who they claim has abused his power, said Raul Murga, C-TIP’s executive director. “He is the primary source of the problem within our city,” Murga said. “We raised the political concern in the community and it brought to light the abuse of power which Ron Beilke continues to display.” One of the two other council members targeted, Pete Ramirez, was ousted from office by voters in council elections earlier this month. The other, Councilman David Armenta, won’t be included this time because at he “saw the error of his ways,” said Murga. His group needed to collect and submit more than 15,000 signatures from registered voters by a deadline of Friday. Murga declined to say how far short of the required number the group fell. But he blamed the campaign’s failure on bad weather and the fact that many voters were out of town during the recent holidays. For more, pick up tomorrow’s Whittier Daily News. last_img read more
